Philippines, Taiwan talking anti-terror, maritime joint effort

Reported here, neighbors Taiwan and the Republic of the Philippines are chatting:
PHILIPPINE and Taiwanese police officials have kicked off exploratory negotiations for possible anti-terrorism and maritime security cooperation, an official said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Arturo Lomibao and several officials flew to Taiwan Monday for a three-day meeting with their Taiwanese counterparts, said Senior Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao Jr., PNP spokesman.
***
"These are exploratory talks for close cooperation between the two countries on anti-terrorism, anti-illegal drugs, and human trafficking," Pagdilao said.

Pagdilao said Philippine and Taiwanese officials would also discuss the problem of fishermen crossing their borders.

Taiwan lies several hundred kilometers off the northernmost tip of the Philippines.
All the more interesting because:
The Philippines has adopted a "One China" policy and recognizes Taiwan as a province of mainland China.
Still, a neighbor is a neighbor. Especially when the "One China" is laying claim to territory also claimed by the Philippines.
