Friday Film: "Damage Control- Shipboard Fire Fighting, Basic" (1960)

One of the many dangers facing sailors at any time - on any ship - is a fire.

If "every Marine is a rifleman," it's equally true that every shipboard sailor is a firefighter should the need arise.

No school ashore is more important than the fire fighting trainer. You don't want to have to learn this through OJT.

  1. I can remember being in the hanger bay of the USS Forestall. There was a large plaque that covered the hangar bay door dedicated to the memory of the sailors that lost their lives in the fire. Of course in Boot camp everyone watched Trial by Fire: A Carrier Fights For Life (1973)
