USS San Francisco and the Sea Mount

Bubblehead at The Stupid Shall Be Punished takes on the New York Times and some "official" gobbledy-gook" (where exactly is the South Pacific?) concerning the grounding of the USS San Francisco here.

The safe navigation of any Navy vessel is always on the shoulders of her skipper. That said, if the sub had to file a track with higher authority, did anyone there send a "look out for the sea mount" message?
