One More Reason Why I Don't Like the American Bar Association: The ABA Plots a Judicial Coup

The ABA Plots a Judicial Coup:
And the chief arbiter of what qualifies as "merit" soon becomes the lawyers' club, especially the trial bar. The ABA resolution is explicit on the point that the commissions should be composed of "lawyers and other leaders." Lawyers might even deserve such pride of place if the judges they chose stuck to judging. But with so many modern judges bent on writing law by fiat, doctors, firemen and used car salesmen are just as qualified to opine on judicial philosophy. In fact, we'd prefer the used car salesmen.
Just to let some of you know, many lawyers resigned from the ABA because of political positions that voluntary organization has taken over the years as more political members hijacked the organization into taking "stands" such as on abortion. Whether a lawyer is supportive or not of abortion should be a personal matter, not something that an organization whose alleged purpose is to improve the quality of lawyers should be involved with.

UPDATE: The state mission of the ABA:
The Mission of the American Bar Association is to be the national representative of the legal profession, serving the public and the profession by promoting justice, professional excellence and respect for the law.
Let me make it clear: The ABA does not represent me.
